ETL
represents the following: 1.Teaching/learning
effectively and therapeutically. 2.Teaching/learning
is an ongoing process, however all
teaching/learning is not effective and therapeutic.
a.
ETL is a school of thought
based upon 22 orientations which reflect the following: i.
No one
regardless of race, culture, nationality, gender, ability, etc. has chosen to be
born as a result: ·
Everyone
has a right to be here. ·
Everyone
has a place. ii.
There are
many reasons why we are here, and there is always
a purpose for every human life. iii.
Every human
being has an inherent value (value that everyone is born with) as a result: ·
No one
should be dehumanized or believed to be worthless, a nobody, lesser human
beings, etc. iv.
Every human
being represents a portion of another human being, as a result: ·
Rejection
of anyone is to some extent rejection of ourselves. ·
The
suffering/hurts of one human being inevitably has an effect on everybody else. v.
No two
human beings are born exactly equal, as a result: ·
Everyone
deserves equal rights to strive toward quality of life in order to become a
better human being. vi.
Regardless
of all the similarities that exist among human beings, no one is exactly alike
as a result we are all unique. vii.
Every human
being regardless of race, culture, nationality, gender, ability, etc. has some
potential to teach/learn. viii.
Every human
being is imperfect and lives and works in an imperfect system (world, society,
community, family, etc.) as a result: ·
Every human
being must continually strive toward quality in life in order to become a better
human being. ·
Since every
human being is imperfect it is necessary that we commit ourselves to certain
therapeutic principles in order to uphold ourselves to a certain standard of
conduct. ·
Since every
system is imperfect it is necessary that we create/develop a system that
promotes and practices honesty, honor, integrity, discipline, compassion and
commitment to excellence in order to increase therapeutic behavior.
